The problem

The Lake District National Park Authority is responsible for the installation and repair of hundreds of fingerposts, gates and bridges, as well as a 174km network of accessible trails called Miles without Stiles. This work comes at a significant cost.

At the same time, many people who love the Lakes want to show support for this wonderful place and leave a lasting, positive mark on the place they hold dear.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

What did we do

We combine the needs of the National Park with the desire to create a lasting memory.  Since 2019, we’ve worked with the Lake District National Park Authority to celebrates people and their memories along the Lake District’s trails, while raising funds to support the Park’s infrastructure. Anyone can select a fingerpost, bridge, gate or bench that needs replacing or repairing. When a donation is made of the value that is needed, the new item is installed and and a sponsorship plaque gives a long lasting thank you.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Our impact

The campaign has proved to be great value for money, with every £1 spent on fundraising resulting in £5 raised for trail items and footpath repairs. Many people have made a donation in memory or celebration of someone special. To date, 130 items have been sponsored, and one donor even sponsored a whole trail!

Our donors have told us that they are so pleased to be able to sponsor an item of furniture in the Lake District. Thanks to these donations, the Lake District National Park Authority can make sure that more trails in the Lake District are well-signposted and accessible. What’s Next?

National Park sponsorship continues to be a fundraising priority for the Lake District Foundation. We have taken the learning from the first 4 years of this project and have identified marketing campaigns and methods most effective for promoting this campaign.
