The charity for the Lake District

The Lake District Foundation is the charity for the Lake District. We fund, collaborate and inspire positive action to support nature, heritage and people.
With your support, we address the urgent challenges facing the Lake District by making amazing projects possible, encouraging collaboration and inspiring positive action.

Trekking Tom Experiences

Tom, a qualified mountain leader and founder of Trekking Tom Experiences, has been involved in hill walking, scrambling and mountaineering for over twenty years. He is both an ambassador and business supporter of the Lake District Foundation.

Who funds the Lake District Foundation?

The Lake District Foundation is funded by a wide range of supporters who care about the future of the Lake District. This includes generous individuals, local and national businesses, charitable grant funders and our annual core funders. Their contributions help us deliver impactful projects that protect and improve this special place.

We’re funded by individuals, local and national businesses, grant funders and annual core funders. Their support allows us to deliver impactful projects that care for the Lake District’s environment, heritage and communities.

Businesses support us through partnerships, donations, fundraising campaigns and cause-related marketing. We work closely with each business to ensure they align with our values.

Yes. Individual donations, fundraising and leaving a gift in your Will all help us fund vital projects across the Lake District. Every contribution makes a difference

Grant funders help us deliver targeted projects, from improving water quality and restoring habitats to supporting sustainable tourism and community initiatives. Some of our grant funders and strategic partners include Calisen Impact Trust and Westmorland and Furness Council. 

Our annual core funding comes from key strategic partners who share our long-term vision. Though a small proportion of our annual income, this regular support helps us plan ahead and respond to new opportunities and challenges.

We accept funding from the National Trust (10k annually), Lake District National Park Authority (10k annually) and United Utilities (20k annually) as it aligns with our mission and does not compromise our independence.

We are transparent about all funding sources and how we use them. You can find detailed financial information in our Annual Report. 

We encourage open dialogue and welcome questions from the public.
