Reedbed Revival- working together for water quality
Do we really need reedbeds around Windermere?
Reedbeds around Windermere have been lost due to a combination of factors including changes in land use, pollution and development that have disrupted these delicate wetland ecosystems. As the landscape has changed, many reedbeds have been drained or neglected leading to a significant decline in their coverage. We need reedbeds because they play a vital role in maintaining a healthy environment. They provide essential habitats for wildlife, improve water quality by filtering out pollutants and store carbon which helps to mitigate climate change. Restoring reedbeds is crucial to bringing back biodiversity and ensuring the resilience of the Lake District’s natural landscapes.

Partnerships working for nature
The Reedbed Revival project, in partnership with South Cumbria Rivers Trust, is a shining example of how collaboration can drive meaningful change in our natural environment. Together we’re working to restore and protect reedbeds, the vital habitats for wildlife which play a crucial role in improving water quality across the region.
By joining forces we’re able to pool our expertise and resources, accelerating the impact of our conservation efforts. Partnerships like these are essential in addressing complex environmental challenges and we’re proud to celebrate the incredible progress made through the dedication of our partners and supporters.
