Fells and Flow Festival Fund supports community and nature projects across Cumbria

A partnership between Another Place, The Lake and the Lake District Foundation is supporting grassroots environmental and community initiatives across Cumbria following the success of the Fells and Flow Festival.

Held on the shores of Ullswater in September the Fells and Flow Festival brought together visitors and local communities to celebrate movement, wellbeing and the landscapes of the Lake District. Income generated through the event has now been reinvested locally with £2,500 awarded to projects that help people connect with nature, strengthen communities and support the natural environment.

The funding has been distributed through the Lake District Foundation to a number of small but high impact initiatives working across the region. The supported projects focus on removing barriers to accessing nature, supporting young people to build confidence outdoors, encouraging community climate action, protecting native wildlife and creating opportunities for children to learn about biodiversity.

Several of the projects work directly with young people and families helping them build skills confidence and a sense of belonging in the outdoors. Others focus on protecting wildlife and supporting community led climate action while school-based activities are helping children connect with nature through hands-on learning and practical conservation.

These initiatives demonstrate the powerful role that local organisations and volunteers play in caring for the Lake District landscape and supporting thriving communities.

Anya Kuliszewski of the Lake District Foundation said:

“Fells and Flow is a brilliant example of how businesses and communities can work together to support the places we all love. The funds raised through the festival are now helping local groups deliver practical projects that connect people with nature, support wildlife and create opportunities for young people across Cumbria.”

The partnership highlights how responsible tourism and community investment can work hand in hand. By reinvesting festival income into grassroots initiatives, the programme helps ensure that the landscapes around Ullswater continue to support both nature and local communities long into the future.

David Vaughan, hotels director Another Place, The Lake said:

“Fells and Flow was created to celebrate everything that makes Ullswater special – the landscape, the people and the sense of wellbeing that comes from spending time outdoors. Working with the Lake District Foundation means the energy from the festival continues long after the event itself, supporting local projects that help communities connect with nature and care for this remarkable place.”
