Langdale Estate’s donations to Fix the Fells exceed £325k

Langdale Estate has just completed its most recent donation of £20,000 to The Lake District Foundation for the Fix the Fells project, taking its total support for the project to £327,378.17 over the course of 35 years.

Langdale Estate, home to The Langdale Timeshare and Langdale and Brimstone Hotels in the Langdale Valley, is one of Cumbria’s leading hospitality businesses and a significant local employer.

Sustainability is central to its approach — from investing in energy efficiency and environmental initiatives to supporting projects that protect the landscape its guests come to enjoy. The business is committed to looking after both its local community and the natural environment that underpins the region’s economy.

Fix the Fells repairs and protects upland paths across the Lake District. By restoring heavily eroded routes, the partnership helps protect fragile habitats, reduces soil washing into rivers and lakes, and makes it easier for people to enjoy the fells responsibly.

The work brings together conservation charities, land managers and skilled teams who use traditional stone pitching and drainage techniques built to last. As visitor numbers rise and extreme weather becomes more frequent, the need for path repairs continues to grow. Support from local businesses is vital to keeping this work moving forward and Langdale Estate plays a significant part in this.

Sarah Swindley, CEO of the Lake District Foundation, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to Langdale Hotel for their outstanding £20,000 donation to Fix the Fells. This support will directly fund vital path repair work in the heart of the Lake District. It is a brilliant example of a local business giving back to the place and community it operates within.”

Steve Tonkin of the Lake District Foundation added:
“This donation will make a real difference on the ground. £20,000 allows teams to repair upland paths using traditional methods that stand the test of time. This support helps us tackle erosion, reduce sediment entering our rivers and protect the special qualities of the Lake District for future generations.”

Dan Visser, Commercial Director at Langdale Estate said:
“We are extremely proud to make this £20,000 donation to Fix the Fells and to see our long-term support pass the £327,000 mark. The Lake District is not only where we do business — it is our home. Our team and our guests care deeply about this landscape, and supporting practical conservation work like this is simply the right thing to do. We are committed to protecting the fells for our community and for future generations to enjoy.”
