Post: Sweet success- Grasmere Gingerbread support the Lake District Foundation
A sweet partnership supporting Cumbrian Woodlands, Meadows and Hedgerows
Cumbrian woodlands, wildflower meadows, and hedgerows have a brighter future thanks to a fantastic charity partnership between Grasmere Gingerbread and Globus. Through a joint fundraising initiative in 2024, sales of Grasmere Gingerbread tins to visiting Globus coach passengers raised an impressive £5,186 for the Lake District Foundation (LDF).
This generous donation will help fund vital conservation projects across Cumbria’s world-famous national park. Steve Tonkin, the foundation’s fundraising manager, expressed his gratitude:
“It is such a generous amount and the second year running that Grasmere Gingerbread and Globus have donated money to the LDF. We will use the donation to fund brilliant projects around the Lake District UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is wonderful to see both local and national businesses playing their part in making the Lake District better – for people and nature.”
Supporting the Lake District’s Future
Globus, a leading travel company, is committed to protecting the stunning landscapes that draw thousands of visitors each year. Tristram Yarde-Leavett, Managing Director of Globus in the UK and Ireland, highlighted the company’s dedication to sustainability:
“The Lake District is one of our passengers’ top visitor destinations and as a company we strongly believe in doing all we can to support its environmental integrity. The area is astonishingly beautiful and offers people, including our passengers, an opportunity to escape from the pressures of their daily lives and reconnect with the natural world.”
A Business Committed to Conservation
Grasmere Gingerbread, a long-standing supporter of the Lake District Foundation, understands the importance of preserving the landscape. Co-director Joanne Hunter emphasized why businesses should play a role in conservation efforts:
“As a business, we need the Lake District to be open and welcoming for Globus customers to enjoy but one which also conserves its flora and fauna for future generations. That Globus appreciates the importance of everyone working together to look after the Lake District is testament to their progressive operational ethos.”
A Legacy of Giving Back
Grasmere Gingerbread has been contributing to the preservation of the Lake District for years. The company also donates £1 from every bag of Grasmere Gingerbread crumbs sold to the Lake District Foundation to help maintain the park’s upland footpaths. This ongoing commitment ensures that future generations can continue to explore and enjoy the region’s breathtaking scenery.
Through partnerships like this, businesses and visitors alike can play a meaningful role in protecting one of the UK’s most cherished landscapes. Every donation, big or small, helps keep the Lake District thriving for people and nature alike.
